Meeting with the tutors
Today we met with the kid’s English tutor and have found a math tutor in the area.
I think a lot of people are put off by how much they charge, however I’m a single parent and the £15 per hour (once a week) is the same as her lunch money at school.
She doesn’t have to have an English and Maths tutor as she’s probably going to go into college at a foundation level to do child care.
For her to sit GCSE’S at college you’re looking at about £100 in this area. Costs may differ in other areas.
I’m looking at putting her into functional skills English and Math so the tutor is really just to build her self confidence especially where asking questions come into practice.
Her creative writing has definitely come on in the past week, she’s thinking about what people want to read, how they want to “feel” part of the story.
Words we’ve had in the jar so far..
Spain; Omelette; Knight; skatepark; unicorn. Crisp; leaves; medicine; nightingale; amazing; go; scooter; scrape; trail; alligator; United Kingdom; America; puma; bee; by; children; watery; butterfly; wasp; kirigarmi.
Blogging… managed to even get that wrong ha ha
So I managed yesterdays blog wrong, to blog as a page not a post 🤨 funny how I still need teaching on some stuff…. good job I don’t have insta or snapchat. I can just manage fb and twitter 🤣
Today we’re just having a chilled day with creative writing and a small food tech lesson. Let’s see how that goes!
The Creative Jar!
Easy bit.. Find a jar or container to decorate.
Grab a magazine, newspaper, look for words that are unusual, difficult or ones that make you say wtf is that! or the internet (search word of the day) or dictionary.com /thesaurus.com.
Write down said words on paper and place in container!
27th January 2020 Launch Day for Home education!
The day has arrived, I’m up and eager at 5am ha ha don’t think the kid is ready for a day of learning yet!
Today we will be creating a creative writing jar and filling it with words.
These words range from bold to sparkling, environment to autonomous, I’m a massive fan of Roald Dahl and his scrumptious words! I mean snozzcumber who makes a word up like that!
For parents who are not “very creative” or have a limited vocabulary (mine is not extensive, unless I need to swear then the list is endless!) The jar is a very good way of bring it all together.
Out of the ‘jar’ Harley will select 5 words each morning, of which she must learn to spell them (if she already doesn’t know). Find out what the definition is and then use it in a piece of creative writing.
Spelling and definition test this afternoon.
Subjects we plan to undertake!
Food tech (home stuff like budgeting, meal planning and how to change a plug), All stuff a person should know!! English with lots of creative writing, Art, Maths, Biology ( science and nature)
Deregistering The Kid
Using this template I notified the school.
The Proprietor (Name and address of School) Date
Dear Sir/Madam
Re: (child’s full name and date of birth)
I am writing to inform you that (child’s name) has ceased to attend at your school and is receiving education otherwise than at school. Regulation 9(1)(c) of the Education (Pupil Registration) Regulations 1995 provides that this is one of the prescribed grounds on which a pupil’s name must be deleted from the admission register. Please will you confirm to me in writing that this has been done.
Yours faithfully
Yes, that’s it. Simple as that.
In the UK, that’s how we do it….. well until school phoned to say actually you need to specify where she is being educated.
So I will rewrite it like this….
The Proprietor (Name and address of School) Date
Dear Sir/Madam
Re: (child’s full name and date of birth)
I am writing to inform you that (child’s name) has ceased to attend at your school and is receiving elective home education otherwise than at school. Regulation 9(1)(c) of the Education (Pupil Registration) Regulations 1995 provides that this is one of the prescribed grounds on which a pupil’s name must be deleted from the admission register. Please will you confirm to me in writing that this has been done.

Just because there are jobs worth in every job. I have also emailed county. I shall include their response, below.
Thank you for sending this through. It’s the schools responsibility to notify me, but I do appreciate you letting me know as well.
Attached to this email are some notes for guidance which have been prepared for parents educating their children at home. I believe you have home educated previously but we have updated our guidance notes so hopefully you’ll find them useful.
If you would like me to arrange a visit with one of our EHE Visiting Officers, I would be grateful if you could please complete the attached questionnaire and return it to my office.
I will send paper copies of these through once I have received confirmation from the school, however if you would like them prior to that just let me know, and I can arrange that.
As you may be aware it is not compulsory to complete the questionnaire, nor to accept visits from the Local Authority and if this the case I will, of course, respect your decision. However, in order to ensure our records are correct I would be grateful if you could confirm this in writing.
Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any queries or if you would like to discuss anything
Welcome to our blog
I’ve just started a home education journey with my 14 year old.
This will be my day to day journal so you can read how we get on, The kid is 14 and my 6th child, number 7 is currently on my lap ill. We live in Dorset in the UK.
Having left boarding school myself hardly able to read and write, it’s been a struggle to get through adult life. However I returned to college aged 30 and read Midwifery at Canterbury Christchurch University. So this blog might also inspire some of you to home educate or put you off entirely…
